Dongxing Port is located in the bustling urban area of Dongxing City. It is 170 kilometers from Nanning, 38 kilometers from Fangchenggang City, and connected via expressways and first-class highways. It is 180 kilometers from Ha Long City, the capital of Vietnam’s Quang Ninh Province, and 308 kilometers from Hanoi, the Vietnamese capital. Dongxing Port is a nationally approved Class I port open to the outside world and one of the most convenient gateways from China to Vietnam and Southeast Asia. In 1958, the State Council approved the opening of Dongxing Port, with its counterpart being Vietnam’s Mong Cai Port. During the Vietnam War against the United States, Dongxing Port served as a major channel for China’s aid supplies to Vietnam. By the end of 1978, due to strained relations between China and Vietnam, Dongxing Port was temporarily closed. On April 17, 1994, with approval from the State Council, Dongxing Port reopened to the public. To facilitate the reopening, our city invested heavily in reconstructing the port, completing infrastructure such as the inspection hall, comprehensive building, auxiliary inspection facilities, and connecting roads. The port area expanded from just under 400 square meters initially to over 1,400 square meters today, the number of inspection channels increased from 6 to 16, and daily throughput capacity rose from 5,000 to 20,000 travelers, significantly alleviating customs pressure and yielding substantial results. In 2006, the port handled 3.026 million inbound and outbound travelers, 163,100 tons of cargo, with a value of $237.9456 million. From January to June 2007, it processed 1.7055 million travelers, 84,900 tons of cargo, valued at $92.6504 million. Dongxing Port has become the third busiest land port in China in terms of traveler throughput, following Shenzhen’s Luohu Port and Zhuhai’s Gongbei Port.

With the establishment of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area and the growing economic ties between China and Vietnam, to accelerate customs clearance and improve efficiency, our city has allocated 3 million yuan to develop an automated self-service inspection system for travelers at Dongxing Port. The project includes eight self-service lanes for inbound and outbound travelers, with plans to launch by the end of September 2007. Once completed, this will greatly ease customs pressure, further enhance service quality, and improve the overall customs clearance environment at the port.
