The Jing ethnic group is one of China’s 22 ethnic minorities with a population of less than 100,000. The three administrative villages (islands)—Wanwei, Shansheng, and Wutou—in Jiangping Town of our city are the only settlements of the Jing people in China, collectively known as the “Three Jing Islands.” The Jing ethnic group makes up 12.8% of the city’s total population and approximately 20% of Guangxi’s smaller ethnic populations. The Jing culture has a long and profound history. The Jing people primarily engage in fishing, supplemented by agriculture, representing a mixed economic and cultural type of coastal fishing and farming. The Vietnamese language is the ethnic language of the Jing people, but they also commonly use Chinese.

The “Hajie Festival” is the most grand and lively traditional festival of the Jing people. The đàn bầu (a single-stringed instrument) and bamboo pole dance are unique traditional cultural performances of the Jing ethnic group. The Three Jing Islands are located along the coast and border, boasting abundant marine resources and tourism attractions. These islands feature natural and cultural landscapes such as Golden Beach, Southern Snowfield, Wanhe Mountain, the “Hating Pavilion,” and mangrove forests. Every year, over 500,000 tourists visit the Three Jing Islands for sightseeing and leisure.

Jiangping Town: Jiangping Town is located in the eastern part of Dongxing City, Guangxi. It borders Jiangshan Township of Fangcheng District to the east, faces the Beibu Gulf to the south, adjoins Dongxing Town to the west, and neighbors Nasuo Town of Fangcheng District to the north. The town government is situated approximately 30 kilometers along the Fangchenggang–Dongxing coastal expressway. The town administers 15 administrative villages and 2 communities, encompassing 46 natural villages and 259 villager groups. By the end of 2004, the total population was 43,500, including 15,000 Jing people, making it the only settlement of the Jing ethnic minority in China.
