Dongxing Guanyin Temple

Dongxing Guanyin Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Guanyin Temple is located on Minghong Road in Dongxing City, Fangchenggang, Guangxi, covering an area of 3,000 square meters with a built-up area of 1,700 square meters. It was built in 1922 by Ou Wenkun, a lay disciple from Qinzhou, who mobilized followers to collect alms in places such as Beihai and Hepu.

The belief in Guanyin Bodhisattva in Dongxing City can be traced back to the Han and Tang dynasties; records found on the large bell at the "Ten Thousand Spirits Celebration Temple" in Mong Cai City, Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam, indicate this. The "Ten Thousand Spirits Celebration Temple" also preserves memorial tablets for the Tang Dynasty’s Bamboo Grove Zen Master and Monk Jizhen, proving that Buddhist activities in Dongxing have never ceased. According to research, even when France invaded Vietnam and the boundary line along the Beilun River was drawn, monks had already built makeshift huts here for spiritual practice. In 1922, Ou Wenkun (dharma name “Juening”), a lay disciple from Qinzhou, rallied followers to raise funds for the temple’s reconstruction.

The temple was consecrated on the 18th day of the ninth lunar month in 1923 and underwent restoration on August 6, 1996, under the leadership of Master Shi Lianshan, a graduate of the Minnan Buddhist College. Currently, the Guanyin Temple features attractions such as the Zhengding Tower, Bell Tower, Scripture Depository, Vegetarian Restaurant, Mountain Gate, Liberation Pond, and Nine-Dragon Wall, and houses 12 sarira relics.

With its long history and beautiful scenery, the Guanyin Temple has become a tourist attraction in Dongxing, drawing visitors and devotees from around the world.
