Jing Ethnic Museum

The Jing Ethnic Museum is located in Wanwei Jing Island Scenic Area, Jiangping Town, Dongxing City, Fangchenggang, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It officially opened in 2009. This is China’s first museum dedicated to the Jing ethnic group, showcasing the history, culture, and traditions of this maritime people.

The Jing are one of the least populous ethnic minorities in southern China, as well as the only coastal fishing ethnic group and the only maritime ethnic group in China. Historically referred to as the "Annan" or "Yue," they were officially named the "Jing" in May 1958 with the approval of the State Council of China.

Covering an area of 26 acres, the Dongxing Jing Ethnic Ecological Museum has a total exhibition space of over 1,800 square meters. It is a thematic ethnic museum dedicated to the collection, preservation, research, acquisition, and display of both tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Jing people. The cultural exhibition is divided into six sections: "Living by the Sea," which showcases the living environment, traditional costumes, language, and customs of the Jing people; "Making a Living from the Sea," highlighting their diverse fishing methods such as casting large nets, picking snails, and digging sandworms, as well as their rich culinary culture; "Melodies of the One-String Instrument," featuring the Jing’s unique musical instrument; "Reverence for the Sea," presenting the group’s vibrant maritime culture; "Folk Beliefs," reflecting a blend of local, Vietnamese, and French influences; and "The Path of the Ethnic Group," focusing on the preservation and inheritance of Jing cultural heritage.

The Jing Ethnic Museum serves as a vivid textbook for getting to know and understand the mysterious culture of the Jing people.

Jiangping Town: Located in the eastern part of Dongxing City, Guangxi, Jiangping Town borders Jiangshan Township of Fangcheng District to the east, faces the Beibu Gulf to the south, neighbors Dongxing Town to the west, and adjoins Nasuo Township of Fangcheng District to the north. The town government is situated approximately 30 kilometers along the Fangchenggang–Dongxing coastal expressway. The town administers 15 administrative villages and 2 communities, encompassing 46 natural villages and 259 villager groups. At the end of 2004, the total population was 43,500, including 15,000 Jing people, making it the only settlement in China where the Jing ethnic minority resides.
