Wanhe Mountain Coastal Wetland Park

Wanhe Mountain Coastal Wetland Park is located in Jingdao, Dongxing City, Fangchenggang, under the jurisdiction of Guangxi. It is an important part of the Jingdao Scenic Area. Covering an area of 3 square kilometers, it is known as the “Little Xishuangbanna by the Sea” and is the most well-preserved coastal wetland in Guangxi.

To the south of the park lies Swan Bay, and to the west is Banyan Head. Here, subtropical fruits can be seen everywhere, and rare plants thrive across the island. To the south of the park, there is a lush expanse of primeval forest, rich in diverse tree species and teeming with wild charm. Nestled against the mountains and facing the sea, the area is abundant in natural treasures.

The cranes at Wanhe Mountain actually refer to both cranes and egrets. From the Qingming Festival to the Winter Solstice each year, over twenty thousand egrets come here to inhabit and breed, creating a spectacular sight. Locals do not distinguish between “egrets” and “cranes,” hence collectively referring to them as “Wanhe Shan” (Ten Thousand Crane Mountain). There are seven species of cranes on the mountain: goshawk crane, crested crane, white crane, silver crane, demoiselle crane, yellow-billed crane, and magpie crane. According to traditional classification, they belong to two major families: the white crane and the heron. The Jing ethnic people have a deep love for nature and regard the cranes as precious as life itself. Here, birdsong can be heard everywhere, humans and cranes coexist harmoniously, and many touching stories of bird-loving and protection have been passed down.

The best time to observe the egrets is at dawn and dusk, when the emerald greenery of Wanhe Mountain is dotted with the white figures of egrets and filled with their melodious, lofty calls, the sounds lingering softly and endlessly.
