Longzhou Zhongshan Park
Longzhou Zhongshan Park is the earliest Zhongshan Park in Guangxi commemorating Dr. Sun Yat-sen. Located on Limin Lane in Longzhou Town, it is bordered by rivers on three sides, with Longzhou Middle School and the Second Sugar Factory to the south, covering an area of 3.5 hectares. This site was originally the “Ruins of Ma Fubo’s Camp” from the Eastern Han Dynasty. Starting in 1905 when Zhuang Yun-kuan served as both the Taiping Sixun Tao-tai and the Border Defense Commissioner stationed in Longzhou, he built “Kui Shan” here. Since then, successive Border Defense Commissioners and military officials have favored the park’s picturesque landscapes, lakes, and natural beauty, constructing one mountain, five pavilions, one pond, two lakes, three caves, two bridges, as well as a zoo, Zhongshan Memorial Hall, and a library. In 1927, General Wei Yun-song stationed troops in Longzhou County and developed it into a park, naming it “Zhongshan Park” in honor of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. During the eight-year War of Resistance, the park became a battlefield and suffered severe damage from warfare, leaving much of it overgrown and neglected.
After liberation, the county government renovated the park twice, restoring its original scenery. The entire park is divided into four scenic areas: Tiger Stone, Another World, Sky Bridge, and Kui Shan. With naturally stunning landscapes, picturesque mountains and waters, and a serene ambiance, the park features minimal artificial alteration. It boasts both the spectacular scenery of rugged mountains and winding rivers, the delicate charm of subtropical gardens, and a rich historical and cultural heritage. Existing attractions include the Temple of Ma Fubo, Forest of Steles, Twin Lions, Tiger Stone, Turtle Mountain, Solitary Beauty Peak, Kui Shan, Great Buddha Cave, “Ri Shan Dai He” stone inscription, Lion Mountain, Wangjiang Pavilion, Guangfu Pavilion, Laifeng Pavilion, Zigzag Bridge, one pond, two lakes, the Martyrs’ Monument, Wu Jianjun Memorial Tower, the site of the Iron Bridgehead Defense Battle, Leshou Pavilion, the Tomb of Nationalist Army’s 188th Division Soldiers Killed in the Anti-Japanese War, and subtropical exotic plants and flowers. Since its establishment, the park has been a center for rest and activities for local residents, and now offers tourism and leisure vacation programs. With enhanced greening and beautification efforts, it has become even more charming, attracting around 100,000 visitors annually.
