Shangjin Township Jinming Village

The Xiangxiangjiao Cave Site is located on the east bank of the Zuojiang River, approximately 600 meters east of He Village in Jinming Village, Shangjin Township, Longzhou County. It lies beneath the sixth group of the Xiangxiangjiao Rock Paintings, about 30 meters above the water surface. There is a small cave here, in front of which lies an inclined platform roughly 15 meters long and 3–5 meters wide, with steep cliffs along the outer edge. The cave entrance flares outward like a trumpet. At a depth of about 3 meters inside, there is another small opening in the rear wall. Entering this smaller opening leads to a cave that is 1.65 meters high and extends about 3.6 meters inward. The entrance is covered with loose sediment about 15–30 centimeters thick. This sediment contains a large number of pottery fragments, all of which are fine cord-marked pottery with sand inclusions, colored red or gray. The pottery walls are relatively thin, about 0.3–0.5 centimeters thick. No stone tools or other artifacts have been found. This site was newly discovered during the third national cultural relics survey and has not yet had its protected area or construction control zone officially designated or announced.
