Wulao Peak National Scenic Area is a national scenic area, a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, and a national forest park.

The Wulao Peak Scenic Area is located on the Zhongtiao Mountain, 16 kilometers southeast of Yongji City. Originally named Wulao Mountain, it earned its name from an ancient legend in which five elders passed down the "River Chart" and the "Luo Writing" to an emperor here. Before the compilation of the "Book of Changes," this area was a sacred site for the early dissemination of Heluo culture. Since the Tang and Song dynasties, the flourishing of religion further enriched the Taoist culture of Wulao Mountain. The mountain is dotted with Taoist temples, nunneries, monasteries, and incense-filled shrines. Legends speak of immortals ascending to heaven and throngs of pilgrims gathering here. In the 19th year of the Wanli reign during the Ming Dynasty, Emperor Shenzong was so drawn to its fame that he visited the mountain to offer incense. The annual temple fair is held from the first to the fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month, which is why it has been called the "52nd Blessed Land of Taoism under Heaven" and is renowned as a famous Taoist cultural mountain in northern China.

Wulao Peak boasts stunning and pleasant scenery, with its unique geological landforms creating many rare and marvelous sights. The "Commentary on the Water Classic" describes it as: "Remarkable peaks rise like rosy clouds, standing majestically above the surrounding summits, shaded by verdant cypresses, with clear springs cascading down their peaks." The mountain features nine springs, twelve caves, and thirty-six peaks. At its peak, there were sixty-four temples and Taoist shrines, with rugged peaks and lush greenery, making it the most scenic site in Shanxi. The scenic area showcases competing peaks, bizarre rock formations, and over a thousand species of wildlife. Wulao Peak mainly consists of five peaks: Yuzhu Peak, Taiyi Peak, Chessboard Peak, East Brocade Screen Peak, and West Brocade Screen Peak. The main peak, Yuzhu Peak, stands at an elevation of 1,809.3 meters, rising sharply like a wall and piercing the clouds. Attractions such as the Sky Ladder, Sky Bridge, zip line, and a thrilling 1,000-meter slide offer excitement and awe. The Yunfeng Pavilion and Jinxiu Valley, which combine leisure, entertainment, dining, and accommodation, are your ideal vacation destinations. The Wulao Peak National Fitness Hiking Festival, held annually from April 18 to May 10, is the best time for hiking competitions and sightseeing.
