Goose Tower is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Goose Tower scenic area is located on the banks of the Yellow River in Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province — a charming city in China situated within the golden triangle region where the provinces of Shaanxi, Shanxi, and Henan meet. The Goose Tower within the scenic area was originally built during the Northern Zhou Dynasty (557–581 AD). It stood through the Tang and Song dynasties but was destroyed by war in the early Yuan Dynasty (1222 AD). Due to its magnificent structure, unique architectural style, majestic presence, and beautiful surroundings, with views of the Zhongtiao and Taihua Mountains ahead and the mighty Yellow River below, it has inspired many poets. The timeless masterpiece “On the Goose Tower” by the Tang Dynasty poet Wang Zhihuan — “The sun along the mountain bows; The Yellow River seawards flows. You will enjoy a grander sight if you climb to a greater height.” — was composed here.

The newly reconstructed Goose Tower follows the architectural style of the Tang Dynasty, featuring four eaves and three stories, with a total height of 73.9 meters and a total floor area of 33,206 square meters. It fully embodies the charm of the Tang Dynasty and the poetic sentiment of “You will enjoy a grander sight if you climb to a greater height.” The scenic area is planned in a classical garden layout, forming a spatial structure of “four zones and twelve points,” making it a national-level tourist attraction.

The interior displays of the Goose Tower focus on the cultures of the Yellow River and Hedong, spanning five thousand years of Chinese history. Through the use of relief carvings, murals, and miniature landscapes, they illustrate how the Yellow River is one of the earliest cradles of human civilization and how the ancestors of the Chinese nation wrote a glorious history here. Examples include Emperor Shun plowing at Mount Li, Yu the Great taming the floods, the Martial Saint Guan Yu, the literary giant Liu Zongyuan, Sima Guang, Sikong Tu, as well as legends such as Lady Xiling domesticating silkworms, iron smelting, and salt production. Therefore, visitors can not only experience the ultimate joy of viewing from great heights but also appreciate the splendid civilization of China’s five-thousand-year history. The Goose Tower is a shining pearl on the banks of the Yellow River and a symbol of Chinese culture and national spirit.
