Yongji City Museum

The construction and exhibition arrangement project of the new Yongji City Museum is a major cultural development project determined by the municipal Party committee and government, as well as a significant measure for implementing cultural initiatives that benefit the public in our city.

The historical and cultural exhibition hall of the city museum is situated on the north side of the main building of the city’s Cultural Center. With a total investment of more than 24 million yuan, it spans two floors and covers an exhibition building area of 4,072 square meters. Focusing on the developmental timeline of Yongji, the exhibition showcases Yongji’s ancient historical civilization and romantic humanistic spirit through a large number of precious cultural relics, artistic scene reconstructions, miniature landscapes, multimedia video displays, and high-tech presentation methods such as phantom imaging. The historical and cultural exhibition hall of the city museum serves as a physical venue for collecting, preserving, displaying, and researching local heritage culture. It is a microcosm of Yongji’s historical and humanistic legacy, comprising five sections: “Puban in the Spring and Autumn Period,” “Tales of the Ancient Ferry,” “The Charm of Puzhou,” “Yongji in Modern History,” and “Hometown of Pu Opera.”

The exhibition arrangement project for the new museum began in 2012, initiating preparatory work such as securing funding, developing the exhibition outline, designing texts, and researching cultural relics. In 2013, experts from the provincial museum were hired to write the exhibition outline, and the feasibility study report for the new museum’s exhibition project was completed and approved. In early 2014, the tender notice for the new museum was issued, followed by a public bidding process. In November, we signed a construction contract with Hebei Jin Continent Company and began construction. The construction period lasted from November 1, 2014, to April 19, 2015. In 2015, we successively completed the interior decoration, electrical and plumbing installations, production of artworks and scenes, renovation of office areas, installation and debugging of finished display cabinets, security systems, fire protection, multimedia equipment, and lighting and sound systems. We also positioned the overhead and independent display cabinets, and carried out the collection and replication of cultural relics. By July, the project was fully completed. Both the security and interior decoration works passed expert group inspections. Additionally, recruitment and training were conducted for personnel related to free public access, including curators, guards, security screeners, guides, cleaners, daily management, and maintenance, preparing the museum for opening. Trial operations began at the end of July 2015, attracting a continuous stream of visitors with good order, realizing the goal of “benefiting the public and sharing achievements.”
