In Rongshui County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, there is a Shuanglonggou Primitive Forest Tourism Resort, also known as "Shuanglonggou." The beautiful Mengwu Miao Village is located here. I inexplicably love the Miao people—their exquisite costumes, their musicality and dancing talent, and their simple, hearty nature.

When you enter Mengwu Miao Village, you will be captivated by its stunning scenery, moved by the sound of lusheng horns and the fun, visually delightful bamboo pole dance, and before long, you’ll find yourself fully immersed in it all. To showcase the hospitality and warmth of the villagers, they line up on both sides of the village entrance to welcome visitors, with the sound of lusheng echoing throughout the village.

Currently, Mengwu Miao Village offers a series of tourism activities including Miao-style pig-slaughtering feast, Miao farming experiences (mini farmland), drum tower antiphonal singing, lusheng dancing, fish-catching games, horse fighting, cockfighting, and bird fighting.

The entire village focuses on providing an immersive Miao cultural experience. The Rongshui County Party Committee and County People’s Government place great emphasis on leveraging the area’s resource advantages. In recent years, they have integrated the tourism industry with poverty alleviation relocation, poverty relief industries, and targeted assistance programs, guiding local residents to participate in the management and operation of the scenic area.

The large-scale live-action performance “The Charm of the Miao,” is held promptly at 8 PM every Friday and Saturday night. The Miao-style stilted houses used as the performance venue were all relocated intact from impoverished mountain villages. The performers include not only staff from the resort but also 150 Miao villagers originally from those relocated poverty-stricken areas, among whom 14 families totaling 53 people were part of the relocation project. The ethnic culture street buildings in the village were also entirely “packaged” and relocated from impoverished mountain villages, preserving the most authentic original features of Miao architecture. This innovative model is helping the Miao village thrive.
