Xinji Martyrs' Cemetery

Xinji Martyrs' Cemetery is a cultural tourism attraction and a classic red tourism site.

In 1946, the Sixth Sub-district of Central Hebei and the Xinji Municipal Government built the Xinji Martyrs' Cemetery south of Xinji City and north of the Shijiazhuang-Dezhou Railway. The cemetery houses the tomb of Wang Xianchen, the martyred commander of the Sixth Sub-district, and a martyrs' pavilion.

To honor revolutionary martyrs and inspire future generations, in 1960, the Shulu County Government relocated the martyrs' cemetery to the west side of the northern section of Xinghua Road in Xinji City, moving the tomb of Wang Xianchen and the martyrs' pavilion to the new site as well. Originally named the Shulu County Martyrs' Cemetery, it was renamed the Xinji Martyrs' Cemetery in March 1986.

Covering an area of 40 mu, Xinji Martyrs' Cemetery is planted with lush pines, cypresses, and various flowers, remaining green all year round and blooming three seasons of the year. The Wang Xianchen Martyrs' Memorial Pavilion is located at the southern end of the cemetery. At the northern end is the Martyrs' Deeds Memorial Hall, which displays relics of revolutionary martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the War of Resistance Against Japan, the Liberation War, and the period of socialist construction, along with brief introductions to their deeds. On the western side, the Wang Xianchen Martyrs' Monument and the First District Martyrs' Cemetery Monument face each other from north to south. The layout of the entire martyrs' memorial structures is rational, solemn, and unified.

Xinji Martyrs' Cemetery is an important revolutionary memorial site. It features a memorial hall, an education center, monuments, pavilions, and statues of heroes. In 2001, the Xinji Municipal Government invested seven million yuan to transform the cemetery into a window for spiritual civilization and a base for national defense education, integrating publicity, education, visits, and sightseeing. Every year on Tomb-Sweeping Day, government officials, workers, and students visit the cemetery to pay respects and hold various commemorative activities to honor the heroic deeds of the martyrs.
