Longguiping Ancient Village

Longguiping Village is located to the south of Fenshi Town in Linwu County and has a history of over 400 years. The ancient village is surrounded on three sides by the Wushui River, which is wide and deep, forming a naturally excellent harbor and one of the ancient docks on the route from Central China to Guangdong. The Wushui River that flows through the village takes an S-shape, resembling from afar a winding giant dragon or a Taiji Eight-Diagram, adding a touch of spiritual charm to the Longguiping community. The village preserves a group of uniquely distinctive ancient architectural complexes from the Ming and Qing dynasties in southern Hunan, featuring exquisitely carved beams and painted rafters, green tiles, and upturned eaves. Among them, the Zhu Family Courtyard is a county-level cultural relics protection unit. In 2017, our county invested 30 million yuan to develop the area according to the planned structure of “one belt, one axis, one zone, four gardens, and multiple nodes,” aiming to create a traditional ancient village themed around “dragon culture.” It has been transformed into a beautiful Chinese rural destination integrating cultural experiences, sketching and photography, sightseeing, leisure, and entertainment. The construction includes the renovation of residential architectural styles, adopting the southern Hunan vernacular style, and transforming 193 houses with the principle of “restoring the old as the old, enriching heritage, and passing on history.” The village’s sewage pipeline network has been improved, and two new sewage treatment pools have been built. New landscape nodes such as “Longxing Street” and “Longteng Square” have been created. All dry toilets in the village have been demolished and replaced with high-standard tourist restrooms. Trash collection points have been arranged, and trash bins have been installed. The village beautification and lighting projects have also been completed.
