Fuxi Culture City

Fuxi Culture City is located in the northeastern suburbs of Xinle City, Hebei Province. It was expanded around the Fuxi Terrace and the Ancestral Temple of the Human Ancestors, covering a total area of over 1,000 acres.

Fuxi, also known as Paoxi, is regarded as the foremost of the Three Sovereigns, a prominent leader of the Dongyi people during ancient times. He was born in Chengji (present-day Tianshui, Gansu). Due to a great flood, he migrated eastward and settled at Fuxi Terrace, where he thrived and multiplied. According to historical records, Fuxi established surnames, created written characters to replace the use of knotted cords; devised the stem-branch calendar and defined the four seasons, uncovering the laws of the calendar system; initiated marriage customs and formalized wedding rites, using a pair of skins as betrothal gifts; invented fishing nets and taught people how to fish and hunt to provide food; crafted musical instruments such as the qin and se, and developed rituals and music to educate the people; observed celestial patterns and geographical features, creating the concept of a round heaven and square earth; originated the River Chart and devised the Luo Shu, crystallizations of scientific beginnings in the symbolic age; distinguished yin and yang and created the Eight Trigrams, leading the Chinese nation from ignorance and barbarism into a civilized era. The achievements of Fuxi are towering and have shone through the ages, earning him the reverence of later generations as the leader of China’s dual civilizations and the ancestor of human culture. The scenic spots within Fuxi Culture City include: Fuxi Terrace, the Ancestral Temple of the Human Ancestors, the Eight Trigrams Platform, the Bathing Pool for the Infant, the Nine Palaces and Eight Trigrams Formation, the Hunting Terrace of King Wuling of Zhao, and the Bell and Drum Tower. Additionally, there are newly built attractions such as the Forest of Stone Tablets by Contemporary Celebrities, the Legend Hall of Fuxi and Nuwa, the Fuxi Culture Palace, and the Yi Jing (Book of Changes) Information Museum.

Transportation: By car, take the Beijing–Shenzhen Expressway, exit at Xinle, head west onto East Ring Road, then turn north. Pass the Beijing–Guangzhou Railway and Wujiazhuang Village, and continue north along Fuxi Road to reach the site. Directional signs to Fuxi Terrace are available within Xinle City. Alternatively, take a train to Xinle Station and transfer to a local bus to get there.
