Jieshan Academy

Jieshan Academy is a cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province.

At the entrance of Chengnei Middle School in Tianchang Town, it was just dismissal time, and a large group of spirited teenagers were laughing and pouring out the gate, behind them the vermilion-painted gate and classic Chinese-style Jieshan Academy.

Built in 1777, Jieshan Academy has withstood the test of time and remains well preserved to this day. With its brick-and-wood structure and blue-tiled roof, it presents an elegant and timeless beauty. Many rooms are now used as teachers’ offices and student dormitories, and are still habitable. In the courtyard stands a stone stele erected in 1997 to commemorate the 220th anniversary of Jieshan Academy.

Jieshan Academy is the cradle of education and the birthplace of culture in Jingxing County, nurturing numerous outstanding talents. Renowned cultural figures from both China and abroad, such as Huo Jiguang and Zhai Taifeng, were once students of Jieshan.
