Yuxi Park

Yuxi Park is situated in Qiaoxi District, Shijiazhuang City, and is divided into nine main sections: the North Gate Plaza Area, Hebei Celebrity Sculpture Area, Shaded Resting Area, Sports Activity Area, Adventure Training Area, Amateur Entertainment Area, Bamboo Garden Area, Water Leisure Area, and South Gate Plaza Area. The park was developed from the site of the former zoo. It lies to the east of Yuandong Street, to the south of Yuhua West Road, to the west of Datancun Village, and faces Zhongshan West Road to the north. Covering an area of over 400 acres, it includes more than 90 acres of water surface and boasts a green coverage rate of over 90%.

In order to improve the western ecological environment and provide citizens and tourists with a high-quality park experience, the Shijiazhuang Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government decided in January 2000 to renovate the former zoo. The renovated Yuxi Park is now a comprehensive, open park that integrates sightseeing, fitness, leisure, entertainment, sketching, and photography.

During the renovation, existing animal enclosures, walls, and some outdated amusement facilities were demolished. The lakebed sediment was cleared, underground pipelines for water, heating, and electricity were installed, and lighting along the pathways and around the lake was added. Existing structures such as bridges, corridors, pavilions, restrooms, the lakeside restaurant, and teahouses were preserved and underwent interior and exterior renovations. A new south gate was opened, and the plaza was entirely paved with bluestone. All trees, shrubs, flowers, and grasses in the park were pruned and reshaped, with new plants added where needed. Several paths and shaded plazas were refurbished and repaved. Supporting facilities such as benches, trash bins, guide signs, and warning signs were installed. Large-scale carnival rides were introduced, and electric and pedal boats were added to Chenlv Lake. Through gradual upgrades, Yuxi Park is being transformed into a high-end, multifunctional premium park.
