Tomb of Wu Luxian

The Tomb of Wu Luxian is a cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province.

Located on a small earthen mound in the northwest corner of Chang’an Park in Shijiazhuang, the tomb covers an area of about 150 square meters. Wu Luxian (1880–1911), courtesy name Shouqing, was a native of Yunmeng, Hubei Province, and a modern democratic revolutionary. He studied in Japan in his early years and successively joined the Revive China Society and the Hua Xing Society. After returning to China, he served as the commander of the Sixth New Army Division. After the Wuchang Uprising in 1911, he went to Luanzhou to meet with Lan Tianwei and Zhang Shaozeng to rally forces against the Qing Dynasty. He then returned to Shijiazhuang to coordinate with the Shanxi Revolutionary Army, helping to establish the Yan-Jin Allied Army and planning an uprising among the northern New Army forces. On November 7, 1911, he was assassinated by a guard captain who had been bribed by Yuan Shikai in Shijiazhuang. The following year, after the establishment of the Nanjing Provisional Government, Sun Yat-sen ordered that Wu Luxian be honored posthumously with the rank of Grand General of the Army and had his remains interred in the courtyard of the Shijiazhuang Railway Station where he was martyred. In March 1982, the tomb was relocated and rebuilt within Chang’an Park. The front part of the tomb site features a 12-meter-long and 6-meter-wide base made of bricks and stones, upon which stand three white marble tomb towers facing east. The central tower bears 14 gilded characters reading “Tomb of the Late Grand General of the Yan-Jin Allied Army, Shouqing Wu.” The entire tomb area is shaded by lush pines and cypresses, exuding solemnity and reverence.

Transportation: Take bus No. 51 in the city and get off at Chang’an Park Station. Alternatively, you can take buses No. 1, 5, or 6 from the railway station and get off at Beiguo Shopping Mall, then walk northeast for 4 minutes at the intersection of Zhongshan Road and Jianshe Avenue.
