The Guozhuang Militia Company of Wuji County is an advanced militia collective. In February 1938, Guozhuang established an anti-Japanese guerrilla squad, which grew into a militia self-defense force of over 500 members by February 1939. During the War of Resistance against Japan, they fought alongside the Eighth Route Army in over 200 battles, eliminating more than 300 Japanese and puppet troops. During the Liberation War, they participated in support operations for battles including those in Zhengding, Qingfengdian, Shijiazhuang, Pingjin, Zhangjiakou, and Taiyuan. In 1948, 33 militiamen were dispatched to form a stretcher platoon, marching over 3,000 li and completing their mission with distinction. That December, the 9th Brigade of the 3rd Column of the Chinese People's Liberation Army’s North China Field Army honored them as the “Model Support Platoon.” In January 1949, the Wuji County Government awarded them a banner that read: “Exemplary in Logistics, Extraordinary Achievements in Support.” In 1958, a militia company was formed, expanded into a militia battalion in 1960. Upholding their glorious traditions, the battalion took the lead in production development, playing a vanguard role in emergency harvests, planting, flood relief, and rescue operations. They actively conducted military training, achieving excellent overall results in live-fire shooting in 1962. By early 1964, the unit had produced 47 top marksmen. With a strong combat ethos—ready at call, ready to fight—they were recognized as an advanced collective in implementing the “Three Ensures” (organizational, political, and military readiness) in militia work. On February 28, 1964, the North China Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee and the leadership of the Beijing Military Region of the PLA awarded the battalion the title of “Red Flag Militia Battalion.”
