Jingxing Douwangling Scenic Area
The Douwangling Scenic Area is located at the border of Luquan City and Jingxing County, within the territory of Jingxing. Developed in 2010, it covers an area of over 1,000 acres. Why is it called Douwangling? It’s named after Dou Jiande, a hero of the peasant uprising at the end of the Sui Dynasty, who once led his troops to fight and live here — scattered across the site are the remnants of the military encampments of Dou Jiande’s peasant rebellion army from 1,300 years ago. During his campaign to overthrow the Sui Dynasty and establish the Daxia regime, Dou Jiande set up camp here, creating a base with forward positions, depth, and a rear defense system. In over 20 villages across Jingxing County, there are relics and legends about Dou Jiande’s rebel army. For example: the camps where Dou Jiande stationed his troops are still called Shangzhai, Nanzhai, and Beizhai. It is said that the place where Dou Jiande was buried is still called Douwangmu Village. Before arranging for Princess Nanyang to become a nun at Cangyan Mountain, the princess resided in the Tanhua Tower, which still stands tall within the scenic area.
Here also winds the 2,380-year-old progenitor of the Great Wall — the ancient Zhongshan State Great Wall from the Warring States period. It is understood that this section of the wall predates the Qin Great Wall by 160 years. According to "Records of the Grand Historian · The House of Zhao": “In the sixth year of King Cheng of Zhao (369 BC), Zhongshan built the Great Wall.”
There are also numerous historical, cultural, and folkloric attractions. “Fortune Path” combines the elements of Fortune, Rank, Longevity, Happiness, and Wealth. With traditional culture as its core and presented in a popular form, it uniquely embodies these five themes, reflecting the auspicious beliefs of China’s agricultural and handicraft eras. Using simple and straightforward artistic language, it expresses the public’s concern for life, aspiration for a happy life, and pursuit of social value. Auspicious structures representing these five themes — such as copper coins, the God of Wealth, money trees, treasure basins, the immortal Liu Hai, the golden toad, and goldfish — form a landscape full of mystery and imagination.
In addition, ancient government offices such as the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Personnel, Ministry of Rites, and the Council Chamber are scattered throughout the scenic area, where traditional folk performances and opera shows are staged, reminiscent of the Song Dynasty’s “wasi” and “goulan,” or the modern-day Tianqiao, Confucius Temple, and Xujiahui. Performers dress in period costumes, delivering vivid portrayals that attract many visitors to stop and enjoy. The scenic area encapsulates the essence of civilization through the ages and records the trajectory of a thousand years of change.
Entertainment options: forest hunting grounds, comprehensive sand sliding fields, cliff flyers, all-round land-water-air adventure bases, drifting rivers, as well as haunted houses, real-life CS, four-season ski slopes, children’s playgrounds, acrobatics cities, and nearly 100 other amusement activities.
