Jingxing Fengdang Mountain

Fengdang Mountain is located 75 kilometers west of Shijiazhuang within the territory of Jingxing, standing at an elevation of 1,020 meters. It is situated southeast of Yanzhuang Village in Ceyu Town, Jingxing County, and is the first ridge of the Taihang Mountains, at the junction of five counties: Jingxing, Pingding, Xiyang, Yuanshi, and Zanhuang. To the west of the mountain is the Zhanghewan Pumped Storage Power Station, while to the south is the Jingshan Scenic Area, adjacent to Provincial Highway 203 just 200 meters away. The base of the mountain sits at an elevation of 460 meters, while the summit reaches 1,020 meters. The mountain is steep with well-preserved vegetation, and there is a seasonal river at its foot. Multiple springs flow year-round halfway up the mountain and do not freeze even in winter. The mountaintop features open flatlands and pine forests. A wide variety of wildlife inhabits the area, including roe deer, wild boar, wolves, pheasants, and partridges. From May onward, the mountain is covered with blooming flowers, and from September to October, it is ablaze with red foliage.

In late autumn, the mountainside bursts into a riot of colors as the forests turn vibrant shades of red, gold, and orange, creating a stunning landscape. Among them, the leaves of the smoke tree (cotinus) appear particularly translucent and luminous under sunlight, setting them apart from those in other regions. Gazing into the distance, the nearby hills and distant slopes display layers of brilliant crimson, pink, scarlet, and peach hues, resembling a sweeping tide of red clouds. The scenery is breathtakingly beautiful and richly colorful, making it a prime spot for photographers.

Fengdang Mountain originally had no official name. It was named after an internet user nicknamed “Feng Dang Bu Zhu” (meaning “The Wind Can’t Stop”), who leased this pristine, wild mountain and developed it into a leisure and adventure tourism area. Thanks to strong promotion by netizens in Jingxing County, this once-obscure mountain attracted a large number of outdoor enthusiasts. With its steep terrain, lush greenery, abundant wildflowers, and colorful autumn foliage, the scenery rivals that of the more famous Xiantai Mountain and Jingshan. This unique landscape filled with romantic wilderness charm offers endless joy to adventurers and has gradually drawn attention from countless tourists and locals alike.

However, through word-of-mouth, no one could recall the official name of this scenic area, and even local residents were unsure where Fengdang Mountain was, referring to it only as the “mountain of Yanzhuang Village in Ceyu.” Later, someone named the mountain “Fengdang Mountain” in gratitude to the netizen, using his online alias. Another version of the story says that hikers playfully called it “Fengdang Mountain” because of a series of steep cliffs on the mountain that resemble a wall blocking the wind. Regardless of how the name came about, Fengdang Mountain indeed gained fame for its unique charm. Once the mountain became widely known, it naturally caught the attention of the Jingxing County government and tourism officials, who were surprised by its growing popularity. After conducting an on-site inspection, they quickly designated the area as Fengdang Mountain Tourist Scenic Area, officially establishing its name. Later, either the Jingxing County government or local residents began referring to it as the Luming Ridge Tourism Development Zone in Jingxing, Hebei.
