The Guanyun Mountain Scenic Area is located in the northeastern part of Jingxing County, about 20 kilometers from Shijiazhuang City, and is often referred to as the "Little Mount Tai." To the east lies the vast North China Plain, while to the west are the rugged peaks of the Taihang Mountains. The western peak of Guanyun Mountain is called Qingquan Temple, also known as "Sunrise Viewing Peak," making it an ideal spot to watch the sunrise from a high vantage point. At the mountain’s summit stand the Temple of the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors, the Lianxin Bridge, the Martyrs' Memorial Platform, and the Martyrs' Memorial Pavilion.

At the foot of Guanyun Mountain in Sunzhuang Village was the location of the Yucai School for the children of central government officials during the Liberation War. When the central authorities moved to Xibaipo, the children of government staff studied and lived here for nearly two years. The site still remains today.

On the evening of September 5, 1940, Japanese forces from Shijiazhuang and other areas concentrated their troops in an attempt to encircle and annihilate our main forces by the Hutuo River. In order to cover the safe retreat of the main force and delay the enemy, Li Hongshan, captain of the Third Company, and Lü Xiulan, head of the Women’s Department of the District Brigade, made battle plans based on the terrain. Lü Xiulan led a machine gun squad from the Third Company, along with the district militia and local villagers, to defend the strategic high ground of Wolang Nao. The main western approach to Guanyun Mountain was guarded by Captain Li Hongshan, who led two platoons along with militias from Sanyu and Shangzhuang villages. The Young Pioneers and civilians were evacuated from the mountaintop and hid in the Baiyun Cave halfway up the northern cliffs of Wolang Nao.

They successfully drew the enemy to Guanyun Mountain and repelled repeated attacks from three to four thousand enemy troops. During the battle, Li Hongshan died a heroic death. After completing the mission of delaying the enemy and protecting the civilians, Lü Xiulan led five comrades to hold off the enemy and cover the escape of others. After repelling one enemy assault, the six brave soldiers ran out of ammunition. They destroyed their weapons and, facing enemies closing in from all sides, shouted the slogan "Down with Japanese Imperialism!" before leaping off the cliff.
