Shijiazhuang Chang’an Park

Chang’an Park is under the administration of the Shijiazhuang Municipal Gardening and Greening Bureau and is a publicly owned institution. Located at No. 205 Zhongshan East Road, it has three entrances on the east, west, and south sides. Situated in the city center with a dense population and convenient transportation, the park covers an area of 363.5 mu, including 90 mu of water surface, more than 120 types of rowing boats, pedal boats, and shaped boats, as well as over 200 species and 78,000 plants of various flowers and trees. The green space spans 199,799 square meters, with a green coverage rate of 88.8%. It is a large comprehensive park in the provincial capital.

The park was initially built in May 1955 and officially opened to the public on August 1, 1958. At that time, it was located near Jiefang Road and was named “Jiefang Park” (Liberation Park). In 1960, when urban districts were divided, it was renamed “Chang’an Park” due to its location in Chang’an District. In 1968, when Chang’an District was renamed “Dongfanghong District” (East is Red District), the park was also renamed “Dongfanghong Park.” In 1980, when “Dongfanghong District” reverted to “Chang’an District,” the park regained its current name, “Chang’an Park.”

The park is planned with a cultural area in the north, featuring facilities such as the “Veterans’ Activity Hall,” “Observation Greenhouse,” and “Luquan Miniature Scenic Spot.” In the northwest corner lies the tomb of Wu Zhen, a revolutionary martyr of the Xinhai Revolution and general of the Yan-Jin Allied Army. The western part is the lake area, where winding waterways blend harmoniously with the surrounding landscape. Along the north side of the lake stands the “Weiming Lake Dredging Monument.” The southern section is a flower bed and green space area, adorned with flower stands of varying sizes and shapes, blooming flowers, shaded trees, grassy lawns, and babbling streams, creating a scene alive with birdsong. The eastern part is the amusement zone, equipped with recreational facilities such as a large Ferris wheel and bumper cars. At the center of the park stands the “Qingying Tower” tea house complex, covering a total area of 2,210 square meters. With its classic Chinese architectural style, the building exudes a rich ethnic charm. The upper floor houses a restaurant, while the lower floor includes a souvenir shop and a cold and hot beverage counter. Surrounding it is a newly built music plaza and fitness plaza, spanning over 2,000 square meters. The entire park boasts picturesque landscapes and a serene, elegant atmosphere. Artificial hills, cascading waterfalls, exotic trees, and uniquely shaped rocks create a scene of wonder at every turn, making it a place visitors linger in delight. It welcomes millions of visitors each year for fitness, entertainment, relaxation, and sightseeing. In 1999, it was listed among China’s Top 100 Famous Parks.

With the development of urban construction, the park has undergone continuous renovation and improvement. In recent years, the municipal government has invested substantial funds to build over 20 new attractions and scenic areas, including the “Potted Plant Garden,” “Music Sunken Plaza,” and “Water Fun Garden,” adding a modern garden art style to the park. The redesigned natural stacked stone lake shore brings visitors closer to the water, allowing them to fully enjoy the park’s scenery while strolling along the lake. Transparent fences integrate the street view with the park landscape, enhancing the harmony and uniqueness of the scenery. In recent years, the municipal government has also invested heavily to merge the southern end of the park with the former First Palace Square, creating the city’s largest integrated administrative and leisure garden-style ecological plaza to date. This achieves a perfect unification of the functions of the park and plaza. The park’s scenery will become even more beautiful, and its functions even more complete.
