Hebei Science and Technology Museum

Hebei Science and Technology Museum is recognized as a base for science education.

Hebei Science and Technology Museum (abbreviated as Hebei Science Museum) is a provincial-level comprehensive science museum under the administration of the Hebei Association for Science and Technology. It focuses on delivering science education exhibitions and serves as a public welfare cultural and educational venue providing science outreach to the general public, especially young people.

The Hebei Science Museum is composed of a new building and an old building. The old building was completed in 1987, covering an area of 21 mu with a construction area of 18,000 square meters. It includes exhibition halls, classrooms, a video hall, a lecture hall, expert service offices, and office areas. Since its opening, it has carried out various science education activities such as permanent exhibitions, temporary exhibitions, touring exhibitions, science education galleries, science lectures, science activity months (weeks), and technology training. In December 1999, it was designated as a "National Youth Science and Technology Education Base" by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Education, and the China Association for Science and Technology, and as a "National Science Education Base" by the China Association for Science and Technology.

The new building is located at No. 1 Dongda Street, Shijiazhuang City. It opened on March 23, 2006, with a total investment of approximately 150 million yuan, a construction area of 12,700 square meters, and an exhibition area of 8,400 square meters. It consists of permanent exhibition halls, a planetarium, a 4D theater, and auxiliary buildings. The permanent exhibition halls feature nine exhibition zones: "Force and Mechanics," "Electricity and Magnetism," "Mathematics," "Portraits of Hebei Academicians," "Universe and Spaceflight," "Sound and Light," "Applied Technology," "Life and Health," and "Earthquake Prevention and Disaster Reduction Science Exhibition Zone," as well as a "Safety Exhibition Zone," showcasing a total of 310 exhibits. The content covers fields such as basic science, technological science, and life science. The planetarium’s GSS-VI optical star projector and dome film projection equipment were imported from abroad, with a total value of about 28.8 million yuan, making it the first of its kind on the mainland and reaching international leading standards. The planetarium has 238 seats and can screen celestial programs and scientific adventure films. The 4D theater’s equipment was imported from Taiwan’s YUE SHIH Co., featuring seat performance, special effects, and overall film quality that rank among the world’s best. Since its opening, the new building has been warmly welcomed by visitors. By early 2007, it had received nearly 300,000 visitors, achieving significant social benefits. The Hebei Science Museum has been praised by leaders and experts as an innovative and resource-efficient science museum, considered to have set an example for the construction of small and medium-sized science museums in China.

Currently, the Hebei Science Museum is actively working on the renovation of the old building. Once this project is completed, the Hebei Science Museum will become a more fully functional modern science museum with enhanced sustainability, and it will undoubtedly make even greater contributions to the field of science education.
