Female Script Scenic Area (Female Script Cultural Village)

Female Script Island, also known as Pumei Village and formerly called Pubei Village, is located 11 kilometers from Jiangyong County and is an ecological green island surrounded by water on all sides. The island is one of the birthplaces of Female Script, shaped like a gourd and covering an area of approximately 0.67 square kilometers. The islanders are known for their simple and kind folkways, mainly consisting of Han and Yao ethnic groups. The island preserves the former residence of Gao Yinxian, one of the inheritors of Female Script.

The Female Script River refers to the section of the Xiaoshui River from Jiangyong County to Female Script Island, stretching about 20 kilometers in length. The river is wide and the surrounding countryside scenery is picturesque. Drifting along the Female Script River allows you to experience the mystique of Female Script culture while also enjoying the beautiful rural landscapes of Jiangyong. The waters around Female Script Island are mirror-like, with jujube trees lining both banks, creating a stunning aquatic vista. The tranquility of the Female Script River mirrors the mystery of Female Script and the gentleness of femininity.

Female Script is the world’s only gender-specific writing system and was listed in the “China Archival Literature Heritage Directory” in 2002.
