Lüquan Tumen Pass

Lüquan Tumen Pass is a cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province.

Tumen Pass is located in Dongtumen Village, Bailuquan Township, Lüquan City. Originally, there were four gate towers, situated at the entrances of Dongtumen Village and Xitumen Village. Three remain today: the West Tower of Dongtumen, and the East and West Towers of Xitumen. There are also over 300 meters of ancient post road, 15 stone steles, and the ruins of a beacon tower on the mountain west of the village. The three gate towers are aligned in a row, facing one another. All three gate buildings are built on stone bases, featuring arched gateways with halls built above. The arches are inscribed with stone plaques reading “Gateway to Three Provinces,” “Glorious Mountains and Beautiful Rivers,” and “Passage between Shanxi and Shaanxi.” Entering Dongtumen Village, the East Tower stands prominently at the western entrance of the village, with the bold characters “Gateway to Three Provinces” written across its horizontal beam. Exiting the East Tower and crossing Taiping River leads you to the Middle Tower, located east of Xitumen Village. Walking about a kilometer along the main street of Xitumen Village brings you to the West Tower.

Historically known as “Tumen, a strategic location where the east blocks the flow of the Fuyang River and marks the border of the Yan and Zhao states. To its southwest, towering peaks pierce the sky, forming a narrow path like a sheep’s intestine. It connects far and wide—truly the throat of east-west passage and a critical junction for travelers. During the Han and Tang dynasties, it served as a fortified pass, where troops were stationed and garrisoned, ranking alongside Tongguan and Puban in importance.” In a broad sense, the Jingxing Pass refers to the entire valley passage stretching from Niangziguan in the west to Tumen Pass in the east, while in the narrow sense, the Jingxing Pass specifically refers to the eastern Tumen Pass.

Since the Qin Dynasty, Tumen Pass has had formidable fortress walls and has always been a key battleground contested by military strategists.

Transit Routes: Take bus routes 320, Tourist 3, or Tourist 5 within Shijiazhuang City and get off at Bao'duzhai Station. Walk south along Guanjing Avenue to reach the site.
