Xingtang Xianglian Temple

Xingtang Xianglian Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Xianglian Temple is located on the south side of Longzhou Street in Xingtang County, Hebei Province. Originally named Xianming Temple, it was later renamed Xianglian Temple. The temple faces south and covers an area of 6,000 square meters. It has existed for over 1,470 years, dating back to the Eastern Wei Dynasty. With a long and storied history, Xianglian Temple has weathered many challenges, witnessed by numerous revered masters and accomplished monks who saw the temple rise and fall through the ages.

In the twelfth lunar month of 1996, Venerable Master Zhaochi, then in his seventies and having left secular life at Mount Wutai, took over as the abbot. At that time, the temple grounds were desolate, covered in rubble and overgrown weeds, with only three dilapidated rooms remaining.

At present, Xianglian Temple has completed the construction of the Mahavira Hall. Daily morning and evening prayers are held in the Guanyin Hall behind the main hall, while major Buddhist ceremonies such as those on the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month take place in the Mahavira Hall. Behind the Guanyin Hall is a row of around ten simple bungalows, with the dining hall and kitchen sharing one room. The overall layout of the temple compound includes plans for a bell and drum tower, monastic living quarters, and a dining hall, all awaiting the fulfillment of karmic conditions. In 1998, Venerable Master Zhaochi took charge of the temple. In his advanced years, he traveled extensively to raise funds for the construction of the main hall, which was finally completed in 2005.
