Zhujiangou Natural Scenic Area

Zhujiangou Natural Scenic Area is located in the area from Lishuping to Xishaling in Yingli Township, Pingshan County, Hebei Province, about 165 kilometers from Shijiazhuang. It lies to the west of Tuoliang at the border with Shanxi Province and is part of the Taihang Mountain range. The valley is filled with the sound of flowing water, and as you hike up the gully, you are accompanied by clear streams all the way. Due to the abundant water supply, the vegetation here is lush, and the mountain trails are hidden among the greenery. The entire hike takes you through the valley and along the canyon, offering a wildly natural experience. While it may be sweltering outside, the valley remains cool and pleasant. Zhujiangou has been spared from external development due to historical reasons and limited transportation, making it a pristine natural scenic area. Its name comes from the steep, enclosed mountain shapes within the valley that resemble pigsties.

The Zhujiangou Valley stretches about ten li in depth, boasting beautiful scenery and unique water features, including more than ten large and small waterfalls and numerous deep pools, all accompanied by the gentle sound of flowing water. It is a rare small-scale water scenic area in North China. Within the valley is a mountain referred to by locals as “Pig Head Mountain,” along with the vivid legend of the “Heavenly Pot Boiling the Pig Head.” The area is rich in flora and fauna, and the local culture is simple and unsophisticated, making it an idyllic retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city, where you can immerse yourself in nature and relax your mind and body. On clear nights, you can admire the starry sky or a bright full moon while listening to the sounds of the mountain village night. There are countless clear, bottom-visible pools in the valley, many of which are home to wild small fish. When it’s hot and you’re tired from walking, take off your shoes and socks, soak your feet in the pool, and before long, you’ll find many little fish swimming around your feet. For people living in bustling cities, this is a rare place for leisure and relaxation. Pingshan’s Zhujiangou enjoys a year-round abundance of water, and the mountain paths are shaded by greenery. The valley is densely vegetated, with flowing streams accompanying you as you hike up. Following the stream through the canyon at the bottom of the valley, the cool water and lush surroundings make you forget that it’s still the height of summer outside.
