The Zhengfeng Mine Industrial Architecture Complex in Jingxing Mining District is an extremely valuable historical and cultural heritage of modern national industry in Shijiazhuang and even Hebei Province, serving as a living textbook of China’s modern industrial history. Zhengfeng Mine was one of the earliest modern coal mines built in China. In 1912, Duan Qirui, then Premier of the Beiyang Government and Minister of War, gathered funds from over ten individuals including Yan Xishan to establish the Zhengfeng Coal Mine Co., Ltd. Duan Qirui appointed his younger brother, Duan Qixun, as the general manager. That year, the company hired German designers to construct buildings such as the General Manager’s Office Building and the German Engineers’ Exclusive Office Building in a Western architectural style. From design to construction, strict standards were applied, and only the finest materials were selected — radiators and tiles were even imported from Germany. Locals refer to it as the “Duan Family Buildings.”

In May 2013, the Zhengfeng Mine Industrial Architecture Complex was listed as part of the seventh group of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
