Yoga Mountain Cliff Carvings

On Yoga Mountain, west of Nanyeh Village, 40 kilometers west of Pingshan County, there are three existing cliff carving sites: one in Incense Burner Valley, one at Temple Mouth, and one in Bodhisattva Cave on the western ridge, featuring a total of 74 Buddhist statues of various sizes.

The Maitreya Pavilion in Incense Burner Valley was initially built in the late Tang Dynasty and renovated during the Jin Dynasty. Inside, a seated Buddha is carved directly into the rock face. The statue stands 8 meters tall, draped in a shawl-like kasaya that drapes over both shoulders, with the right side hanging down over the left shoulder. The folds of the robe are smooth and upright, the facial features are round and full, and the posture is gentle, with the Buddha forming the teaching mudra — showcasing exceptional sculptural craftsmanship.
