Various Sub Tombs

The Various Sub Tombs are a cultural heritage site protected by Hebei Province.

The Various Sub Han Tombs are located in the area around Various Sub Village in the northeastern part of Zhao County, Hebei Province. The tomb cluster centers on the north of Various Sub Village and spreads across an area approximately 8 kilometers long from northwest to southeast and 5 kilometers wide, encompassing villages such as Various Sub Village, Songcheng Village, and Damavillage.

According to relevant records, the burial mounds of the Various Sub ancient tombs are large, mostly multi-chamber brick tombs. Analysis of artifacts unearthed from the site suggests that the tomb owners were from the Han Dynasty, and legend has it that they are the tombs of Marquis Songzi (surname Xu) and his family. In 1956, the People's Government of Hebei Province listed the Han Tomb Cluster as one of the first batch of provincial-level key cultural heritage protection units. A 1956 cultural relics survey identified 43 ancient tombs, of which 36 still exist, with 25 having been damaged by human activity. The damaged tombs are mostly from the Eastern Han period.
