Wanpodeng Site

The Wanpodeng Site is a protected cultural heritage site of Hebei Province.

The Wanpodeng Site is located on a highland to the west of Zanhuang County and is commonly referred to by locals as "Wanpodeng." The site is roughly rectangular in shape, measuring approximately 300 meters from east to west and 205 meters from north to south, covering an area of about 61,500 square meters. The cultural strata are complex, with a depth of around 3 meters, and the site has not been formally excavated.

The elevation of the site slopes downward from the northeast to all three surrounding directions. The eastern part has suffered relatively severe damage, with a 6-meter-wide road passing through the site, while other sections remain well-preserved.

In recent years, three stone axes, two perforated stone knives, two stone arrowheads, one stone sickle, and eight fragments of stone blades have been unearthed at the site. Most of the pottery artifacts are gray clay pottery, with decorative patterns on the sherds including cord marks, basket weave, incised lines, wavy patterns, and grid patterns.

Experts have identified the site as a Neolithic cultural site dating back over 5,000 years.

In 1993, the People's Government of Hebei Province designated it as a provincial-level key cultural relics protection unit.
