The Dacheng Hall of Shenze Confucius Temple

The Dacheng Hall of Shenze Confucius Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province.

The Dacheng Hall of Shenze Confucius Temple is located in the county town of Shenze and is an ancient structure from the Ming Dynasty. It was built in the third year of the Yuanyou era during the Song Dynasty (1088), and has undergone multiple renovations and reconstructions over the years. The current structure is believed to date back to the Qing Dynasty.

According to the Shenze County Annals from the 11th year of the Xianfeng reign (1861) of the Qing Dynasty, the temple at that time comprised a five-bay Dacheng Hall, seven-bay east and west wing rooms on either side, a three-bay Jimen (Pole Gate), a three-bay Lingxing Gate, and a Pan Pond area, along with one-bay east and west school gates. To the north of the Dacheng Hall stood the three-bay Chongsheng Shrine, and to the north of the Chongsheng Shrine was the three-bay Minglun Hall. The three-bay Minghuan Shrine and three-bay Xiuxian Shrine were located outside the Jimen. Today, only the central structure of the Confucius Temple—the Dacheng Hall (Hall of Great Achievement)—remains. It is situated on the north side of East Avenue in downtown Shenze (north of the county health bureau). The Dacheng Hall has five bays, with a roof featuring alternating yellow and green glazed tiles. The ridge decorations are dragons on the front side and phoenixes on the reverse, while the gable patterns feature dragons on the eastern side and phoenixes on the western side. The rear ridge also displays a circular pattern of twin dragons, giving the building a highly unique architectural style.

On July 15, 1993, it was designated as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit by the People's Government of Hebei Province.
