Ximenwai Ruins

The Ximenwai Ruins are a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Hebei Province.

The Ximenwai Ruins are located on the east bank of the Ye River, outside the west gate of Pingshan County, Hebei Province, covering an area of 22,525 square meters. Due to their proximity to the Ye River, the ruins have suffered considerable damage. The exposed cliff faces contain not only pottery fragments but also reveal ash pits and storage pit remains.

Investigations of the site indicate a complex cultural stratigraphy, including not only the Yangshao Culture layer from the Neolithic Age, but also a relatively thick Shang Dynasty cultural layer, as well as cultural remains from the Warring States Period and later. However, based on the nature of the site, it should be classified as a Shang Dynasty site, dating to the early period of the Yinxu culture.

The site boasts rich cultural content and high historical value, and has been designated as a key provincial-level cultural heritage protection unit.
