Tomb Murals of Shizhuang

The Tomb Murals of Shizhuang are a protected cultural heritage site of Hebei Province.

The Tomb Murals of Shizhuang are located in Shizhuang, Jingxing County, and date back to the Song Dynasty.

The tombs are mostly single-chamber, wood-imitation brick-chambered structures, many of which feature murals. They show no signs of looting and are well-preserved, holding significant historical and artistic value. Among them, the “Pounding Cloth” mural on the eastern wall of Tomb No. 4 is the most distinctive, drawing widespread attention from many experts and scholars. More than 50 years after the publication of the archaeological excavation report, renowned experts and academics continue to write about this piece, which is widely recognized as the finest tomb mural from the Song and Jin periods in Hebei.

On July 23, 1982, the Tomb Murals of Shizhuang were designated as a provincial-level cultural heritage site by the People’s Government of Hebei Province.
