The Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture Museum currently houses a collection of over 100,000 cultural relics, among which more than 1,800 have been identified as national precious relics, with a large number of folk relics still awaiting appraisal. Over the decades, the museum has organized a series of influential exhibitions, including: the "Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Ethnic Folk Customs Exhibition," which introduces the distinctive ethnic cultures created by the Tujia and Miao people through their long-term production and daily life practices; the "History Exhibition of the Hunan-Hubei-Sichuan-Guizhou Revolutionary Base Area," which showcases the glorious achievements of comrades such as He Long and Ren Bishi in leading the Second and Sixth Corps of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army in establishing a revolutionary base in Xiangxi; and the "Exhibition of the Xiangxi Bandit Suppression Victory Memorial Hall," which depicts the heroic history of eradicating Xiangxi’s century-old banditry in the early years of New China, thanks to the strong offensive of the People's Liberation Army and the close cooperation of the various ethnic groups in Xiangxi, thus enabling the local people to live in peace and happiness.
The museum currently employs 23 staff members and has established a professional and operational system for museum work. It has become an important venue for education on ethnic unity and progress as well as revolutionary traditions, serving as a key window for the outside world to understand and learn about Xiangxi.
