Martyrs' Monument in Fujia Village

The Martyrs' Monument in Fujia Village is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhengding County.

On May 10, 1995, it was designated as a county-level key cultural relics protection unit by the People's Government of Zhengding County.

Located at the southeast entrance of Fujia Village, Nanlou Township. The monument faces east and is made of bluestone. The main body of the monument is 2.38 meters high and 0.85 meters wide, with a base that is 0.27 meters high. In 1967, a memorial shelter was added, bringing the total height to 4.35 meters.

The top of the monument is inscribed with six large seal script characters reading “民族英烈纪念” (In Memory of National Heroes and Martyrs). The inscription describes how, after the Marco Polo Bridge Incident in 1937, the Kuomintang troops retreated in defeat, and the Japanese invaders burned, killed, and looted everywhere, leaving the people in misery. Fortunately, the Eighth Route Army arrived, mobilized the masses, established democratic political power, and expanded anti-Japanese armed forces. Under the leadership of the Communist Party, the government, military, and civilians united to attack fortresses, capture strongholds, rescue the people, and reclaim the territory, striking fear into the hearts of the enemy and opening up a new situation, allowing the people to see the light again. Throughout the eight-year War of Resistance, they “captured over twenty fortresses, reclaimed thirty thousand square li of territory, liberated more than one hundred thousand people, and over a hundred villages.” Among the most famous battles were the annihilation battles in Fengjiazhuang and Xikou Village, the defensive battle in Bai Dian Village, and the ambushes in Nanlou and Xuxiang, among others, which “dealt heavy blows to the enemy and puppets, achieving countless victories and glorious accomplishments.” In the first month of 1945, to commemorate the anti-Japanese martyrs of this region, a monument was erected at the southeast entrance of Fujia Village by the Political Department of Zhengding County, the County Government, the Regimental Headquarters, the Anti-Japanese League, and the Military Committee. The back of the monument lists the names of 327 martyrs, including county, district, and village cadres, as well as soldiers from regiments, companies, platoons, and squads.

In 1967, a 4.35-meter-high memorial shelter was added, and in 2015, the monument underwent restoration and a surrounding wall was built. On May 10, 1995, the People's Government of Zhengding County named it the “Fujia Village Martyrs' Memorial Monument” after the village where it is located and designated it as a key cultural relics protection unit.
