Huwang City Ruins

The Huwang City Ruins are a cultural relics protection unit of Zhengding County.

On November 13, 1982, it was designated as a county-level key cultural relics protection unit by the People’s Government of Zhengding County.

Located in the northwest of Zhengding County, about 12.25 kilometers from the county town, at the southern part of Hu Village, Quyangqiao Township, adjacent to the northern bank of the Hutuo River, the site dates back to the Shang Dynasty.

According to the "Zhengding County Annals," Hu Village existed before the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty. Additionally, according to the "Zhengding County Place Names Compilation," the village once had a Sanguan Temple stele (now lost), which mentioned that Hu Village was originally called Huwang City. During the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty, due to flooding of the Hutuo River, houses were destroyed, the settlement shrank, and it was renamed Hu Village, the name by which it has been known ever since. During a cultural relics survey, Shang Dynasty cultural remains were discovered here. Legend has it that during the Shang Dynasty, Hu people built a city here and were enfeoffed in the area, hence the site is named Huwang City Ruins.

Hu Village: According to the inscription on the Sanguan Temple stele located southwest of the village, it was originally named Huwang City. During the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty, the Hutuo River flooded, destroying houses and reducing the size of the settlement, leading to its renaming as Hu Village. …… More details about Hu Village++
