Guxian Relics Site

The Guxian Relics Site is a protected cultural heritage site of Hebei Province.

The Guxian Relics Site is located north of Guxian Village, Nanqiao Town, Xingtang County, Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province, covering an area of approximately 500,000 square meters.

The Guxian Relics Site has unearthed about 1,800 cultural relics (including sets) made of gold, bronze, iron, pottery, jade, and shells, and discovered some 520 various types of remains such as ash pits, tombs, and house foundations. The site has revealed a noble cemetery, residential areas, and an Eastern Zhou city site with characteristics of northern ethnic groups dating from the late Spring and Autumn Period to the middle Warring States Period (5th century–3rd century BCE). This fills a gap in the early research on the Zhongshan State, provides important evidence for confirming the location of Nanshing Tangyi, searching for the early capitals of Zhongshan, bridging gaps in the history of the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, and studying the Sinicization process of northern ethnic groups such as the Rong and Di peoples and the formation of China’s multi-ethnic unity.

In early 2018, the Guxian Relics Site in Xingtang was selected as one of China's Top Six New Archaeological Discoveries of 2017. On February 14, 2018, it was designated by the People's Government of Hebei Province as part of the sixth batch of Provincial-Level Protected Cultural Heritage Sites in Hebei.

Guxian Village: Located 4 kilometers from Nanqiao Town, Guxian Village has yielded abundant ancient relics with high cultural research value. In particular, its chariot and horse pits are among the best-preserved examples in the Hebei region. Joint archaeological surveys, explorations, and excavations conducted by the Hebei Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics, the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Shijiazhuang Municipal Institute of Cultural Relics, and the Xingtang County Cultural Relics Protection Management Office have uncovered 29 Eastern Zhou-period tombs, 5 chariot and horse pits (including animal-training pits), 140 ash pits, and 20 wells, along with a large number of pottery items and construction materials such as roof tiles and half-tile end ornaments.
