Peach Blossom Fish Base

The Zigui Peach Blossom Fish is a rare freshwater jellyfish. Due to geological changes and other factors, it now only appears in large numbers in three ponds in Guizhou Town, Zigui County, while it has mostly disappeared elsewhere in the world. With the rising waters of the Three Gorges Reservoir, these three ponds in Guizhou Town were permanently submerged. To rescue this rare species, in July 2002, the state initiated a project to protect the Zigui Peach Blossom Fish. Currently, Zigui has established three conservation bases: the Huangjiatang Reservoir in Guizhou, the Yongle Reservoir, and the Sixi Scenic Area. Recently, Peach Blossom Fish have also been discovered in the harbor of Muyu Island.
