The Three Gorges Bamboo Sea Ecological Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Also known as Sixi Ecological Tourism Area, the Three Gorges Bamboo Sea Ecological Scenic Area is an ecological tourism destination primarily focused on sightseeing and dynamic experiences, supplemented by leisure vacations and scientific research. It is located in Maoping Town, Zigui County. The scenic area is 9 kilometers from the Three Gorges Dam and the new Zigui County urban area, 10 kilometers from the Yangtze Three Gorges Tourist Wharf, 40 kilometers from Yichang Railway Station, and 48 kilometers from the Three Gorges Airport. With tranquil paths through serene surroundings and a refreshing climate, it serves as an ideal place to relax. The Three Gorges Bamboo Sea is a significant tourist attraction in the New Three Gorges region.

The Three Gorges Bamboo Sea features a unique geographical location, a warm and humid climate with distinct seasons, and exceptionally beautiful natural ecology. The scenic area spreads out in a tree-like pattern along the Daxi water system, stretching 9 kilometers from north to south and 1 kilometer from east to west, covering a central area of 20 square kilometers. Lush bamboo groves, picturesque bridges and streams, layered mountains, cascading waterfalls, and dense vegetation—home to a rich variety of bamboo species—highlight the area’s mountains, forests, caves, bamboo, water, and falls. It is hailed as the “natural oxygen bar of the Three Gorges region.”

The Three Gorges Bamboo Sea boasts tens of thousands of acres of emerald bamboo and three hundred named varieties, spreading along streams and roads and covering the mountainsides. When the wind blows, the bamboo waves resemble an ocean, hence the name. In the distance, the green stretches endlessly; up close, the bamboos stand like flutes and pipes, creating poetic, picturesque beauty.

In Holy Water Lake, the water is especially clear, reflecting small bridges, pavilions, mountain shadows, and the sky. Count the fish swimming as if in the clouds. Drifting on bamboo rafts or playing in the water here brings endless joy.

Within Tiānshuǐ Gorge, the scenery is stunning: Jade Rabbit Mountain, Golden Rooster Announcing Dawn, and the Buddha Mountain rise from the earth.
