The Battlefield Site of the Battle at Yanglinshi by the Second Red Army Corps is located along the southwestern bank of the Nanwe River in Songzi City, stretching from Yanglinshi to Taishanping. In December 1930, after withdrawing from battles in Jin (Jinshi, Hunan) and Li (Li County), the Second Red Army Corps moved to the areas of Yanglinshi and Jiehesshi in Songzi County for rest and reorganization. The Front Committee of the Corps held a meeting in Yanglinshi to discuss military strategies. Due to serious disagreements, the troops hesitated and failed to prepare adequately for battle. Meanwhile, the enemy forces from Hunan assembled 18 regiments and methodically launched a three-pronged attack on Yanglinshi on the 17th. Our Sixth Red Army Corps was forced into a hasty engagement, with fighting initially breaking out in the areas of Taishan and Wuguling. At this critical moment, the locally recruited indigenous force under the command of Gou Zaiyang, which had recently been incorporated, defected from the rear, leaving the headquarters of the Second Red Army Corps in danger of being attacked from both front and back. After fierce fighting, the Sixth Red Army suffered severe setbacks and withdrew from combat, later regrouping at Liujiachang and moving into the border region of western Hunan and Hubei. In 1988, this area was designated as one of the first municipal-level cultural heritage protection units.
