Gishui Artificial Lake

Gishui Artificial Lake, a renowned artificial freshwater lake in Asia, has the Gishui Dam stretching 8,968 meters,

making it the largest earthen dam of its kind in Asia. The catchment area covers 1,142 square kilometers, with a water surface area of 37 square kilometers and a maximum water depth of over 40 meters.

The lake is expansive and crystal-clear, merging with the sky in one hue, while 500 islets emerge from the water, dividing the surface into multiple sections. After several expansions and contractions, it forms a continuous scenic area — islands in the lake,

and lakes within the islands, showcasing breathtaking lake and mountain vistas. Fifty clusters of peninsulas, with peaks standing shoulder to shoulder and layers of mountains stacked together, create a landscape where water and hills complement each other — truly “mountains come alive with water, and water becomes enchanting with mountains.”

It is honored as the “Thousand-Islet Lake of Fairyland in Southern Chu.” The lake offers ideal conditions for water-based recreational activities such as swimming and boating.
