Shemiwu Bai Handan Hall is a cultural relic protection unit of Hubei Province.

Shemiwu Bai Handan Hall

Located in Shemiwu Village, Baifusi Town, Laifeng County, it was originally built in the first year of the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty (1821) and renovated in the third year of the Tongzhi reign (1864). It faces south and has a rectangular layout, with a courtyard in front and the hall at the back. The courtyard is 13.8 meters wide and 26.52 meters deep, with walls made of strip stones and a main gate on the south side; the hall is three bays wide (13.8 meters) and one bay deep (6 meters), built with a stone and wood structure, featuring a single-eave hanging mountain roof covered with grey tiles. The central bay uses a raised-beam framework, while the side bays have stone walls for load-bearing. Inside, there is a shrine enshrining three carved statues: Peng Shangjue Zhu, Xiang Laoguaren, and Tian Haohan. This building is the earliest and best-preserved Bai Handan Hall among the extant ones of the Tujia people in western Hubei, serving as the most direct physical historical material for studying the social customs of the Tujia people.
