The Site of the Banshajie Uprising is a protected cultural heritage site of Hubei Province.

The Site of the Banshajie Uprising

It is situated at Zhaizibao in Banshajie Village, Huatuo Township, Gaodong District, Laifeng County. In the autumn of 1926, Zhang Changqi and others mobilized more than 300 peasants to construct a fortified stronghold here for military drills. On October 28, 1926, they initiated an uprising and assaulted the county town of Laifeng, but the rebellion was later suppressed. The site is a mountain fortress with an area of approximately 3,500 square meters, divided into three tiers of inner and outer walls. Each level is enclosed by blue stone battlements, 3–5 meters high, with pathways between the tiers and a network of tunnels leading outside the fortress. This site serves as a tangible testament to the revolutionary struggles of the Tujia people. (Fifth Batch)
