Former Site of Shinan Pacification Commission

Located in Shuitianba Village, Jiaoyuan Town, Xuan'en County. Also known as the Tusi Imperial City of Shuitianba. The Shinan Pacification Commission was initially established in the early Yuan Dynasty under the name Shinan Communication Pacification Commission. In the fourth year of the Hongwu era (1371) during the Ming Dynasty, it retained this name, but was changed to a Chiefdom Office in the second year of the Yongle era (1404), under the jurisdiction of the Datian Military-Civilian Thousand-Household Command. The administrative office was established in the fourth year of the Yongle era (1406). It faces south and covers an area of 5,000 square meters. The imperial city has now been destroyed, leaving only the palace, which was rebuilt in the mid-Qing Dynasty. The layout consists of a two-courtyard quadrangle with a front hall, central hall, main hall, and side rooms on both sides. The total width is five bays (17.5 meters), and the depth is 26.6 meters. The structure features a single-eave, flush-gable roof covered with gray tiles. The main building uses a post-and-lintel frame construction, surrounded by brick walls. About 2.6 meters in front of the front hall is a stone gate in the form of a double-column, single-bay, memorial archway. One stone stele remains, inscribed in regular script with the nine characters “Shizhou Guard Hereditary Pacification Commissioner Office.” Multiple stone carvings of animals such as horses, deer, elephants, cranes, and qilins are located within the courtyard.
