The Jianzhuping Handmade Oil Press Workshop is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Hubei Province.

Jianzhuping Handmade Oil Press Workshop

Located in Xiaomaopo, Jianzhuping Village, Lijiahe Township, Xuan'en County, it was built during the Republic of China period. The site comprises the pressing house along with its auxiliary structures: the main press, earthen stove, mill trough, and stone mill. The pressing house is built in a post-and-lintel style with two bays—one bay holds the main press, stone mill, and earthen stove, and the other contains the stone millstone. The main press is crafted from a solid piece of wood and is located on the inner side of the “stove room.” The stove is sealed with bricks and plastered with mud, featuring a firebox at each end, over which sit one upright and one slanted large iron cauldron. The mill trough is assembled from several large rocks with grooves carved into them. The stone mill is hewn from rock. This oil workshop is one of the few remaining traditional handmade oil presses in western Hubei and holds significant value for the study of local production and customs. (Fifth Batch)
