Zhang Family Dong Village in Yejiaoyuan is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Hubei Province.

Zhang Family Dong Village in Yejiaoyuan

Located in Yejiaoyuan Village, Xiaoguan Dong Ethnic Township, Xuan’en County, it is a Qing Dynasty–era building, oriented southwest to northeast. The interior features a courtyard house, while the exterior consists of stilted buildings, covering a total construction area of over 1,700 square meters. The courtyard house has foundations on two levels, with the main house and courtyard built at the rear, and the front section featuring inverted stilted structures used as passageways. The right-side courtyard is 13.6 meters long and 10 meters wide, the middle courtyard is 12 meters long and 4.5 meters wide, and the left-side courtyard is 10.4 meters long and 9 meters wide. The houses are two to three stories high and feature the uniquely Dong architectural element known as the "half-side hearth." Windows, pillars, and plinths are all exquisitely carved, and the courtyard floors are paved with stone. This Dong village preserves traditional Dong residential architectural techniques while also incorporating features of the northern-style quadrangle courtyard, providing valuable physical material for the study of Dong ethnic customs, culture, and traditional dwellings in the Enshi region.

Protected area: Centered around the four-courtyard compound of the Zhang Family Courtyard in Yejiaoyuan Zhang Family Dong Village, the protected zone extends 90 meters east to the house of Zhang Dongping, 70 meters south to the pond, 30 meters west to the rural road, and 50 meters north to the house of Zhang Youde.

Construction control zone: Extending outward from the protected area, it reaches 50 meters east to the power line pole, 50 meters south to the parking lot, 100 meters west to the ridge of Qingshanliang Mountain, and 50 meters north to the inner edge of the road.
