The Xianghe River and the Former Site of the Xiangbei Local Committee are a cultural relic protection unit of Hubei Province and a classic red tourism site.

Xianghe River and the Former Site of the Xiangbei Local Committee

Located in Baïtudi Village, Tuoshi Town, Tianmen City, the building is three bays wide, 9.5 meters deep, and covers a construction area of 108 square meters. It served as the headquarters of the Xianghe River and Xiangbei Local Committees during the Anti-Japanese War period. In October 1942, the Tiangan Local Committee was dissolved, and the Xianghe Local Committee, Administrative Office, and Military Sub-district were established, with their offices relocated from Jingshan’s Luqiao to the area between Tianmen’s Fenjin and Guanyinhu in the spring of 1943. They were later moved to Baïtudi Village in Tuoshi Town, Tianmen. In November 1944, the Xianghe Local Committee, Administrative Office, and Military Sub-district were dissolved. The region was divided along the Xianghe River, establishing the Xiangnan, Xiangbei Local Committees, Administrative Offices, and Military Sub-districts. The party, government, and military organs of the Xiangbei Local Committee were stationed in the Baïtudi Village area. The establishment of the Xianghe and Xiangbei Local Committees played an important bridging and connecting role in the advance of the New Fourth Army’s 5th Division into Xiangnan, the development and expansion of the Honghu old revolutionary base area, and the prevention of Japanese forces advancing into Xiangnan. This former site is the only surviving local-level or higher governmental office from the Anti-Japanese War period in Tianmen City, holding significant historical value.
