China National Flower Garden

The China National Flower Garden is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The China National Flower Garden is situated on the southern bank of the Luo River, on the site of the Sui and Tang Dynasties city ruins, south of the Peony Bridge on Longmen Avenue. Established in 2002, it spans a total planned area of 1,548 mu. Rooted in the history and culture of the Sui and Tang Dynasties and centered around peony culture, the garden combines historical culture, humanistic landscapes, and garden scenery. It features over 1,000 fine varieties of peonies from China and abroad, totaling more than 500,000 plants, along with 180 species of trees, flowers, and plants amounting to over 3.8 million, and 21 garden structures. It is currently the largest specialized peony viewing garden in China. During the annual Peony Culture Festival, the garden attracts a multitude of visitors and has become one of the popular destinations for leisure, recreation, and sightseeing for both locals and tourists.

The garden has invested heavily to introduce over 200 premium varieties of peonies, totaling more than 40,000 plants. Among them, “Yao Huang,” “Dou Lv,” “Sai Xue Ta,” “Gui Fei Cha Cui,” “Wu Jin Yao Hui,” and “Guan Shi Mo Yu” are considered masterpieces among peony cultivars. Additionally, dozens of fine varieties imported from Japan—such as “Hana Ou,” “Fang Ji,” “Yachiyo Tsutsuji,” “Kin Ko,” “Kin Kaku,” and “Hai Huang”—boast pure colors, vibrant hues, and long blooming periods, with over a thousand plants in total, bringing the number of premium peony varieties in the garden to over a hundred.

The garden also introduced rare and precious peonies such as “Chang Shou” (over 150 years old), “Chang Shou Zi” (over 120 years old), and dozens of other renowned varieties aged between 100, 80, and 70 years. In addition, the garden extensively plants over 20 species of plants including “cherry blossoms,” “cedars,” “osmanthus,” and various evergreen shrubs, totaling more than 100,000 plants. This makes the garden’s environment particularly distinguished by its plant arrangements—natural, elegant, exquisitely unique, and prominently showcasing European-style garden design.
