The Cuoli Site is located in the Cuoli Brigade of Gucheng Commune, approximately 12.5 kilometers south of Luoyang City. The site area is a terrace measuring about several hundred meters from north to south and several hundred meters from east to west. Cuoli Village is situated on the site. The site lies about 5 kilometers southeast of the Yi River, nestled between the Yi and Luo rivers. This area features flat terrain and fertile land, forming part of the renowned Luoyang Plain. The terrain of the site slopes from south to north. The surface layer of the site is not well preserved. Based on the terrain, the terrace can be divided into three layers from bottom to top: the first layer contains mostly Yangshao Culture remains; the second layer, about 2 meters higher than the first, mainly features remains of the “Henan Longshan Culture”; the third layer, about 1.5 meters higher than the second, predominantly holds remains of the Erlitou Type Culture①. The surface soil is yellowish-gray, scattered with pottery shards and fragmented stone tools. Thick early cultural deposits and ash pits have been exposed along the surrounding cliffs.
